Ilkal sarees are woven using cotton wrap for the body and art silk warp for the border and pallu section of the saree. These sarees have distinctive feature of joining the body and the pallu warp externally in which the pallu and body threads are tied in a loop technique, a technique known locally as TOPE TENI. The weaver’s wives spend nights labouring meticulously creating attractive folds with their bare hands.
